The Indian Institute of Technology is among the new entrant of IITs organizations of India. With due effect of announcement by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, the IIT Manipur is included in the plan to set up eight more IITs in the states of Manipur, Bihar(Patna), Andhra Pradesh(Hyderabad), Himachal Pradesh (Mandi), Orissa (Bhubaneshwar), Madhya Pradesh(Indore), Gujarat(Gandhinagar) and Punjab(Rupnagar) and the total numbers of IITs will be increased to 15 from 7 in present. IIT, Manipur at Jodhpur has started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 from the Campus of IIT, Kanpur.
